Master Christopher Glynne May

Master Christopher Glynne May aka Dr. May, began his Martial Arts journey in 1993 with Master David Ridener at the Rideners Martial Arts Institute in Orlando Florida.  In 1996 at the age of thirteen Master May achieved the Presidential Fitness Award and became a First Poom Black Belt.  At Master Rideners Master May continued training to Second Poom and First Dan learning a host of basic to advanced skills in Taekwondo, Hapkido, including rolling, falling, weapons,  and Tai Chi. Due to illness Grand Master Ridener was forced stopped teaching, yet in his absence Master May continued to train and hone his skills until arriving at Martial Arts Academy of Central Florida (MAACF) in January 2003 where with Master Nelson he continued formal training once again.

By December 2003 Master May had again achieved First Degree Black Belt. One year later tested to Second Dan, and by December 2006, Third Dan. Master May continued his training with MAACF throughout the year 2007 spending much of 2007 teaching while Master Nelson was on a deployment for much of the entire year. Master Nelson was eventually forced to close the school in April 2008 due to continued deployments, and again Master May did what Masters do, train and hone day in and day out.

In addition to Martial Arts training, Master May graduated from University of Central Florida with a Bachelors in Biology in 2005. While the Academy was closed from 2008 to 2016 Master May attended the American University of the Carribbean School of Medicine, graduating a Doctor of Medicine, MD, in 2011.

Master Nelson returned from final deployment in September 2015, and opened the Korean American Martial Arts Academy in January 2016. Master May was one of the first students to pass through the new school doorway and has been an inspirational addition and contributor to our training ever since. In February 2017 Master May underwent intense testing under the supervision and authority of Kukkiwon 9th Dan Grand Master Oh, Joo, Yul, former Florida State Taekwondo Association President, three time Korean National Light Weight Champion, multi country Olympic Team Coach, and Grand Master Jae Sun Do 9th Dan Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo, both international Taekwondo authorities. Following exam, Master May was promoted to 4th Dan Kukkiwon, 5th Dan Taekwondo JidoKwan, and 6th Dan Taekwondo Moo Duk Kwan.
In April 2023 Master May was promoted by the Kukkiwon after he tested and passed the Kukkiwon 5th Dan exam.

Master May continues his training in Taekwondo & Hapkido at Korean American Martial Arts Academy as the senior student, Assistant Instructor, and Medical Advisor.
